I’ve always loved films and going to the movies. It’s hard to beat sitting in a big dark theater and watching something big and loud. The popcorn helps too. Back in 2009 I decided that I wanted to make my own movie. I had saved up a bit of money after working for 3 months without a day off (see ‘Avatar’) and cashed in every favor that I may or may not have earned from all my friends. ‘The Lair’ is the end result.
Horror movies have always been a personal favorite of mine, though usually I’m too scared to actually watch them. I was able to use the camp that I spent many summers going to and working at as the backdrop for the story that I came up with.
Having only ever worked on the post production side of filmmaking, this was a real eye opener. Literally going from start to finish. It was such an incredible experience. I could not have done it without all of my friends and family, which is my favorite part of filmmaking, collaboration. I learned a lot from this project and I’d love to use that knowledge to make another one some day.
